A Detroit Uncorked Event to Help Gleaners Food Bank

September 15, 2014 | 94.7 WCSX

Food insecurity. That means you don’t have enough to eat. That’s a situation that almost one quarter of a million of the people that live here in the state of Michigan experience every day. But you can change that.

You help Gleaner’s Food Bank and Gleaner’s gets the food to people who need it. You’re helping people right here where you live. Last year Gleaner’s was able to help five hundred and ten soup kitchens, shelters, and pantries. That’s a lot of food to people who need it. And for every dollar you donate to Gleaner’s ninety four cents goes to food and food programs. Basically what that means is more food gets to people that need it and less money is spent on administrative costs.

Now that you know the story here’s a way you can help. Buy a ticket and attend Detroit Uncorked on Friday, September 25. You’ll enjoy your choice of over two hundred and fifty wines, craft beers, and cocktails, food from Detroit’s hottest restaurants, music, and a silent auction. Most importantly that ticket you buy helps Gleaner’s provide over two hundred and twenty five meals to people who need them. That’s doing a lot of good. Get your tickets at DetroitUncorked.com today.

“At a time when the entire country is looking down on what we all know to be a great city, we at the Detroit Wine Organization could not be prouder of our mutual efforts to bring the Motor City back to where it belongs. Detroit Uncorked is an example of what amazing things we are all capable of and we thank our sponsors, our volunteers and especially Gleaners Community Food Bank for partnering with us for this world class event.”
