AfAnC_4x6_-_Front.jpgThe African American Celebration aims to uplift and showcase some of the diverse performance genres created by African and African American cultures including: jazz, neo-soul, R&B, funk, hip-hop, and traditional African & Afro-Cuban drumming and dance.

The event will feature nationally-acclaimed, award winning artists from Detroit such as the T Money Green RoadWork Crew, the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Iyawo Dance Theatre. There will also be a live demo of traditional African body adornment by Detroit’s very own African Body Adornment Project.

The event is FREE, open to ALL AGES, and will be held RAIN OR SHINE!

There will family-friendly activities such as arts & crafts, a henna artist on-site, information table for local programming and community resources and food & beverage available for purchase.

- John Douglas Jazz Quartet presented by the Detroit Jazz Festival (Jazz)

- Iyawo Dance Theatre (traditional African & Afro-Cuban dance)
