Canstruction is partnership between American Institute of Architects (AIA) Detroit, Detroit-area engineering and architecture firms and Gleaners Community Food Bank. For the past several years, it has been sponsored in part by Kroger and hosted by Wayne State University.
This year’s display will start on Noel Night in the Welcome Center of Wayne State on December 3rd and the structures will be up for viewing until December 10th. You can vote for your favorite on Facebook.
Different teams of architects and engineers create structures out of unopened cans of food following a theme. The 2016 theme is “Iconic,” leaving lots of room for interpretation! We can fit up to 12 teams in the space, and all of the food will come to Gleaners after they are taken down. Last year, two of our teams even won awards at the national level!
