Hunger Hero School Champions

April Winner

Messmore Elementary in Sterling Heights was our April winner. The school donated $800 to Gleaners and created 2,400 meals!

March Winner

Simonds Elementary in Madison Heights was our March winner. The school collected 4,320 pounds of food, which provided 3,585 meals!

February Winner

The Roeper School in Birmingham has been named our February winner. They collected 892 pounds of food and were able to provide 4.49 meals/student. The Roeper donation was generated from the Roeper Middle and Upper School Spirit Week. The goal was for Grades 6 – 12 to donate at least 100 cans of food to receive points and all but one class achieved that goal! 915 cans of food was donated to Gleaners. Read more 


January Winner

Hutchings Elementary in Howell was our January winner. They collected 2,886 pounds of food and were able to provide 4.47 meals/student. 

An honorable mention goes to Dearborn Heights Montessori. They collected 1,381 pounds of food in December and an additional $1,005 in donations in January. That provides 4,161 meals!

December Winner

Brighton High School National Honor Society has been having food drives for at least 15 years.  Fourth-hour classes compete to see which can bring in the biggest contribution, and competition is fierce among teachers and students!  The top three classes receive pizza parties or a taco bar.  This year the winning class raised over $2000!  


November Winner

The Hunger Hero winner for November is Beverly Hills Academy in Franklin. They raised 1,063 pounds of food and $50. They provided 6.45 meals/student.

October Winner

The winner for most meals per student for October is University of Detroit Jesuit High School.

They collected an amazing 2,296 pounds of food and $5,000! This generous gift will provide approximately 16,913 meals.

In addition, there are generous sponsors who are matching all financial donations, meaning U of D’s gift will provide an additional 15,000 meals, bringing the total meals provided to 31,913 meals. This event was sponsored by the Ignatian Service Corps.
