DTE Energy Garden Lead Volunteer Help

DTE Energy logo - no backgroundSpring is here, and it's time to
get back into the soil!

Our Lead Volunteers are true anchors of the gardens, and we're sending out the call for more!

Lead Volunteers independently lead other volunteers at Weekly Volunteer Days and Group Work Days. Becoming a lead volunteer means learning strong gardening skills, introducing other volunteers to gardening and Gleaners' mission, and playing a key role in keeping the DTE Energy Farm Project going strong.

It is not necessary to have previous experience in gardening, or in leading volunteers - we will teach you everything you need to know!

The  steps to becoming a Lead Volunteer are:

  1. Attend an Introductory Training (see the schedule below).
  2. Assist in two Group Work Days.
  3. Lead a Group Work Day with Kate assisting.
  4. Attend additional trainings as necessary (each gardening season requires different skills, so the spring session teaches planting, the summer teaches harvesting warm-season crops, the fall session teaches late-season harvesting, etc).

Spring Introductory Training Sessions*:

Plymouth Twp Thursday, May 15th 6pm-7pm
Washington Twp Monday, May 19th 6pm-7pm
Farmington Hills Tuesday, May 20th 10am-11am

Please note:
to lead at a particular garden, volunteers need to attend the training specifically for that garden. (It's necessary to go over the layout and individual concerns/quirks of that garden).

*If you would like to be a Lead Volunteer but can't make the above times, please send an e-mail to Kate at Tell us what day of the week and what time you're available. We will schedule additional trainings according to the responses.
