At the Heart of Hunger

During the month of February, MGM Grand Detroit's team members worked together to impact the community in an exciting way. They held their 3rd annual “At the Heart of Hunger” food drive, where they were able to contribute more than 18 pallets of food, sort and pack over 45,000 pounds of food, and donate over $13,000 to help feed hungry men, women and children in southeast Michigan.

This extraordinary food drive started after team members from MGM Resorts International sister proprieties in Mississippi posed a challenge to MGM Grand Detroit to see which team could collect the most food. “Initially the food drive started as a fun rivalry, but our team members have made it a mission to help combat hunger within their community,” shared Director of Public Affairs at MGM Grand Detroit Dee Dee McKinney Odom, “It’s been wonderful to see how our team members have taken this campaign to a new level to help feed our community.”

The food drive didn’t stop with just a collection, on February 28, MGM Grand Detroit’s team members volunteered at Gleaners Headquarters to pull agency orders, pack pallets, sort nonperishable food items, and pack apples. With their efforts, they were able to package 45,579 pounds of food in one day.

As we continue to work to extend our reach to the growing number of our hungry neighbors with the nourishment they need, we are grateful to have committed partners like MGM Grand Detroit. Thank you for your partnership and generous donation to help feed our community in southeast Michigan. We look forward to another successful “At the Heart of Hunger” drive.
