Cooking Matters ™
Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ is a groundbreaking program that provides cooking-based nutrition education for low-income individuals and families. Culinary and nutrition instructors volunteer their time and expertise to lead hands-on courses that show participants how to purchase and prepare nutritious foods in healthy, safe, and delicious ways. These instructors and the participants are supported by volunteer class assistants. Each course series is six weeks long, and classes meet at the same time and location for two hours each week. Classes are held Monday through Friday at sites throughout Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, and Monroe counties. This is an individual volunteer opportunity that requires additional training and consent for a background check.
