2026 March Matchness: A Slam Dunk for Solving Hunger

March Matchness is Gleaners’ annual three-week food and fund drive challenge running alongside the NCAA Men’s March Madness Tournament. Running from March 9–27, this year’s competition showcased the power of communities coming together with generosity, purpose, and a spirit of friendly competition. Thanks to the incredible efforts of teams across southeast Michigan, more than 106,000 meals were raised to help solve hunger for thousands of neighbors—all while competing for the iconic Banana Trophy.

In the Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, and Monroe Counties Competition, teams worked together to raise a remarkable 62,656 meals! Taking first place was the Detroit Malayalee Association, followed by Chemico in second and Roush Red in third.

The Livingston County Competition was just as impactful, with teams raising an outstanding 43,564 meals! Top honors went to the Greater Brighton Area Chamber, with Livingston County Community Mental Health Authority earning second place and Livingston County Public Safety taking third.

Whether teams landed at the top of the leaderboard, contributed behind the scenes, or cheered from the sidelines, every effort mattered. This year’s March Matchness is a meaningful reminder that when communities come together, real progress toward solving hunger is possible. Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make this year’s competition a success!
