A Signature Event to Honor Two Champions for Children
Food insecurity is a barrier to students’ academic success. We’re working with local educators and community partners to tear it down through our Best Food Forward initiative. On April 23, we will share our vision on solving food insecurity for families and honor two of the many champions who fight every day for our community’s students. Come and stand with us — at the event, and every day thereafter — for the future of all kids in southeast Michigan.

“If children are good, life is good. … our struggles should not ever overshadow the importance of taking care of our young, our future.”
~ Tonya Allen, Skillman Foundation
“If we’re going to give these kids the very best future we possibly can, we need to take those adult worries off their childhood shoulders and allow them to be the children that they deserve to be.”
~ Dr. Diane Golzynski, Michigan Department of Education, Office of Health and Nutrition Services
Children who come from food-insecure homes are at risk of not reaching their full potential. When kids don’t have enough to eat, they face significant educational barriers. Their grades suffer because they can’t concentrate. They struggle with social and behavioral problems. They fall behind and never catch up.
To address this solvable problem, Gleaners is launching Best Food Forward, a groundbreaking, community-based initiative that aims to improve the way kids learn, engage, and eat at school by making healthy food more accessible.
Join us on April 23 for the 26th annual Women’s Power Breakfast as we honor Allen, Golzynski and all of the powerful women leaders in our community who are using their power every day to solve food insecurity for children and their families.
