Before current realities of the coronavirus pandemic, one in five families in Michigan struggled with hunger. With state-mandated school and business closures, many more people will be affected—today and well into the future.
Gleaners is actively expanding our operations in order to get more food into the hands of people in need, as safely and efficiently as possible. Visit our community distribution page for detailed information and location maps.
Feeding Our Kids: With schools closed, more than 300,000 children in Michigan who rely on free and reduce-price school meals may be going hungry. Together with our partners, Gleaners will continue to offer our School Food Mobiles, as well as additional mobile drive-up food distributions in response to the current need. Find site information on our distribution page.
Also, an extensive list of food related distribution sites around the state is being updated on Michigan Department of Education’s map.
Community Need: Gleaners is coordinating with agency partners to provide food boxes for community members who need support due to temporary workplace displacement caused by precautionary coronavirus closures. Details will be announced on gcfb.org as soon as possible.
How You Can Help: To support these increased efforts, Gleaners needs your help. Community members are encouraged to donate what they can in this increased time of need or host a virtual food drive.
We are grateful to our supporters, our partners and our staff for their help during this unprecedented time. We will continue to keep you informed via email, social media and our website. Thank you for your support and concern for our neighbors.
With gratitude,
Gerry Brisson
