As we transition from summer to fall and we think about the seasons changing, there are some fall fruits and veggies that you may begin to see showing up in your local stores. Some of this produce may be available year-round for you as well.  If you have a farmer’s market near you, you can start looking for this fresh produce as early as late summer.  Get an early start on fall shopping and start adding some of these vegetables and fruits into your meals!

Apples – There are a variety of apples during the fall season and these tasty fruits can be added to many dishes.  From pies, to sauces, to snacks, apples are a delicious treat for you and your family.  Don’t forget – apples are why we have cider mills and provide a great activity for you and your family this fall season.  Enjoy activities such as apple picking, hayrides, and walking through the pumpkin patch. Pears – This fruit is a great fall classic that people tend to forget about.  Pears are delicious for a snack and can be eaten with cheese, nuts, and go great with a charcuterie board.  Pears can also be made into a sauce similar to apple sauce. Don’t forget to pick up some pears next time you’re at your local farmers market or store!

Butternut Squash and Pumpkin – Some of our favorite vegetables for the fall season, butternut squash and pumpkin give you just the sense of fall you may be yearning for.  You can make delicious soups with this vegetable or just eat them sprinkled with some brown sugar on top.  If carving pumpkins, don’t forget to save those tasty seeds to roast them in your oven.  Butternut squash and pumpkin are always great reminders that fall is here!
