General Motors is flexing its volunteer strength, as the fourth-annual “teamGM Cares Week” kicks off today, Monday September 14.
1,900 GM employees across the country will lend a helping hand at food banks, children’s hospitals and cleaning up local neighborhoods through nearly 100 community projects.
“Our employees are passionate about giving back year round, both in dollars and time,” said Heidi Magyar, director of GM Community Outreach Programs. “teamGM Cares Week is an annual opportunity for us to rally together in support of the communities across the country in which we live and work.”
The largest portion of volunteering efforts will take place in GM’s home state of Michigan, where, throughout the week, GM employees will participate in projects at the Gleaners Community Foodbank in Warren, pack family food boxes at Forgotten Harvests’s Oak Park warehouse in Fenton and participate in neighborhood cleanup initiatives with the Grace Center of Hope in Pontiac.
As an added incentive, the GM Foundation will provide a $200 grant to eligible non-profits for each employee who completes 50 hours of volunteer service through the “Dollars For Doers” program.
