Gleaners Emergency Response Update: September

Gleaners Community Food Bank is six months into our COVID-19 response efforts. Our team has delivered an additional 11.5 million pounds of food to 325,000 households deeply affected by the crisis.

Month after month, our rate of food distribution remains 45% higher than any previous year. With every bag of groceries and every emergency food box, we know nutritious food can be a helping hand for someone in their greatest hour of need.

Our focus remains on helping ensure no child will go hungry in southeast Michigan. Gleaners aims to continue to support parents with school-age children by providing consistent access to nutritious groceries through drive-up food distribution sites as well as our continued School Food Mobile pantries and BackPack Program.

Current Need and Reach

From Detroit to Hartland, Gleaners is Reaching School-age Kids
During school closures, summer months and now a new academic year—our School Food Mobiles continued to be a reliable resource for students and their parents grappling with a new normal. Read stories from our guests who have come to rely on our expanded food distributions.

“I am struggling just to keep everything straight. It’s just me and the kids. Having these groceries helps, since we get a lot of food all at once. This truly goes a long way for us.” –Lumona Johnson, School Food Mobile Guest
