With a longstanding commitment to children’s health and access to nutritious food, the Morgan Stanley Foundation has awarded Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan with a $100,000 grant. The funds will support Gleaners’ expanded School Food Mobile distributions, which provide nutritious food to school families. Gleaners is one of 28 food banks that received grant funding from Morgan Stanley as part of a $2.1 million gift to Feeding America® member food banks to help develop, launch, expand and sustain critical child nutrition programs.
From November 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022, the Morgan Stanley Foundation grant will provide funding for 20 of Gleaners’ School Food Mobile distributions. The sites are strategically located at schools and Head Starts in Wayne and Macomb counties to reach children and families who are experiencing the greatest need for food assistance. Each School Food Mobile site supplies 75-100 families with up to 30 pounds of food, including fresh milk, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and lean protein.
“For 60 years, the Morgan Stanley Foundation has been dedicated to ensuring children received the healthy start to life they deserve – and ensuring they have access to healthy and nutritious food is a crucial part of that commitment,” said Joan Steinberg, Global Head of Philanthropy at Morgan Stanley. “Given the challenges that we’ve seen exacerbated by the pandemic over the past year, we are pleased to build upon our decade long partnership with Feeding America to help fight hunger through this impactful choice model in the communities where we live and work.”
