With confirmed cases of coronavirus within our service area, we recognize that you may have questions about how Gleaners’ operations may change, especially on behalf of our hungry neighbors.
Currently, operations at our warehouses will continue, and our trucks are traveling their routes to deliver nutritious food to our hungry neighbors.
While understanding that people in our community rely on us, we are committed to the health and safety of our team members, those we serve, and our volunteers. Gleaners has taken all necessary precautions to distribute food safely and efficiently to those facing uncertainty about their next meal.
Because new details of the situation will evolve over the coming days, and likely weeks, we are working alongside and staying in consistent communication with experts and community organizations. We are maintaining close connections with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all 5 county health departments, Feeding America, the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, the Food Bank Council of Michigan and the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, as well as our more than 500 partner agencies, to make careful and informed decisions to best serve our communities.
What You Need to Know:
- Our warehouses will continue operations to maintain food distributions through our partner network, with careful consideration for any process changes that may be needed to serve the community. To ensure safe food handling, we are taking all necessary precautions and adhering to the guidelines recommended by the CDC for cleanliness. We also are ensuring alcohol-based hand sanitizers and cleaning wipes are readily available in our workspaces.
- Gleaners is taking precautions to limit the number of people in our facilities.
With health and government authorities recommending “social distancing” to limit the spread of coronavirus, we are limiting volunteer numbers and suspending our educational programming until mid-April.
During times of uncertainty, it is important we all work together to help those around us. We will continue to keep you informed via email, through social media and on our website. Thank you for your support and concern for our neighbors.
With gratitude,
Gerry Brisson
