As a food shortage looms, Gleaners Community Food Bank is working to fill in the shortfall to make sure neighbors in need aren’t facing a massive shortage of meals this winter.
After last year’s brutal and destructive storms battered coastal states as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, USDA food resources were diverted in an effort to provide disaster relief and help communities recover from the devastating effects of the hurricanes.
As a result, Gleaners experienced a drastic reduction in food donations, especially proteins such as chicken. By the end of the year, we could be down almost 1 million pounds. That’s more than 800,000 meals for hungry families in southeastern Michigan. But Gleaners aims to ensure that doesn’t happen – and needs your help to do so.
