Stamp Out Hunger Project
Volunteers are needed to help fold bags and staple them to postcards for the Letter Carriers Food Drive! Use the form below to sign up! Stamp Out Hunger is a project that can be done on-site at your school or business, rather than at a Gleaners warehouse location. Folded bags are stapled to postcards and delivered to mailboxes to remind people to donate food during the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. This year the date is Saturday, May 13. People leave cans of food at their mailboxes and letter carriers pick up the food and bring it back to the food bank. When the bag is used as a reminder rather than just a postcard, the food we collect increases substantially! Typically, over one million pounds of food are collected on that one day in southeastern Michigan.
Folding must be completed by April 1 and stapling must be completed by May 1. You may sign up for folding or stapling or both. To fold two boxes of bags (2,000 bags per box) will take about 80 volunteer hours. So, 20 volunteers would need four hours to finish the task. To staple two boxes of bags (2,000 bags per box) will take about 15 volunteer hours. So, 15 volunteers would only need one hour to finish the task. You may pick up the bags and folding supplies starting February 27 at the Gleaners South Distribution Center at 21405 Trolley Industrial Drive in Taylor. Postcards will be ready for pick up starting approximately April 10. We ask that you return the folded bags by April 3. We ask that you return the bags stapled to postcards by May 1. We have some limited availability to drop off and pick up the bags, but if you are able to help pick-up and drop-off on your own, it is a huge help! Two box minimum required. Thanks so much!
