It’s not food or logistics, but payroll that can be the biggest expense for food banks. Paying employees can eat into the funds meant to purchase food and supplies, which comes at a premium this holiday season. But with the aid of volunteers at Gleaners, those struggling to get by have easier access to food. “The only way to serve the needs of the community is make the most of every dollar and volunteers really drive that for us,” said Gleaners President Gerry Brisson says.
